Kalamitsi Beach

Kalamitsi-Beach-Sitonia-Halkidiki

The southernmost part of the Peninsula of Sithonia boasts fine sand beaches, clear waters and intriguing landscape. Kalamitsi is a family-friendly destination. The secluded resort is far from the festive crowds typical for Neos Marmaras. This romantic gateway is tiny and small and you never have to walk too far to have a dinner or to get a drink. We were able to walk along the promenade in 5 minutes. Yet what is good for some, is bad for others. Young couples and teenagers would feel annoyed outside the nightlife hubs.

Location and Landscape

Kalamitsi is 160 km from Thessaloniki and 60 km from Nikiti. It consists of three gulfs of which the western bay houses an eco-friendly camping, the southern hosts the central beach and the eastern is a nudist paradise. Here the green mountain slopes into the azure sea.
The name Kalamitsi is associated with a warm climate and a place sheltered from the winds. Indeed, the beaches of Kalamitsi feature calm waters without any waves. From mid-July to mid-August, temperatures can be very high – up to 37-38 °C.

The middle part of the beach of Kalamitsi overlooks a beautiful rocky islet that is 40-50 meters offshore. It can be easily reached by swimming. Tourists have fun climbing on the top of the island. The place is perfect for snorkelling. It features great visibility and an interesting underwater landscape. The southern bay of Kalamitsi gets very crowded in the summer.

We have been accommodated in Kalaminsi only once – at the beginning of August. Still, each time when we visit Sithonia, we come to this magnificent beach. When the central beach is very crowded, we walk through the hill to the nudists’ campsite.

There are organized parts of the Kalamitsi beach with sunbeds and shadows provided by beach bars and restaurants. These facilities can be used if you buy drinks or food. Some waiters can be very insistent on you to order more and more. Once, they had removed our towels from the sun beds because we left the beach for a while. “I have to work with someone”, explained rudely a representative of the beach bar stuff.
In summer, people stay in the water or in one of the beach bars. The resort also boasts a few traditional Greek taverns where prices are lower than in the neighbouring resorts such as Porto Koufo. Menus include fresh fish and seafood. A sun dried octopus and octopus stew are common local specialties. The restaurants are set on the beach which is great for a romantic dinner.

There are nice and affordable accommodations in Kalamitsi. Even in high season, the price of a studio in a beachfront hotel which is equipped with a kitchenette and private bathroom, is up to 55 euros per night.

Kalamitsi Camping

Kalamitsi Thalatta Camp is surrounded by beautiful nature, sandy beach, and turquoise waters. One of the best camps in Greece offers different types of housing from fixed lodgings to small tents.

The village features communal buildings with showers and WC for men and women, communal washing machines, cooking facilities, playground for kids and various sports activities. The biggest benefit of staying at the camping is the vicinity to the beautiful beach.

Kalamitsi is a romantic resort for people who prefer to relax on the beach. It can be a starting point for trips to the numerous secluded beaches in the area of Halkidiki – Kriaritsi, Sikya, Sarti, Vourvourou, Porto Koufo and Toroni. It is an amazing place to stay for 4-5 days.
